The life of a silver mine in the 16th century, according to Heinrich Groff

These miners dressed in rags, and sometimes barefoot, are even poorer than the rubble removers. They must remove the ore piled up by the rubble removers at the foot of the mineshaft, and remove the runoff water. At the top of the mineshafts, the turn the crank handles, requiring four turners per hoist.
The wooden pail carried by two others is the basic tool used in the mineshaft.
We can see a Lorraine cross engraved over the entrance of the mine. It indicated that the Duke of Lorraine is the owner of the mine.
