Stephan WEISS

Born 1955 in Munich/Bavaria, Stefan Weiß started to collect minerals in the "early days", around 1962/63.

Main collecting topic: Regional mineralogy of Alpine-veins in general (since 1968); minerals of Cornwall (since 1971) and minerals of Saxony (since 1989).
Special interest: Pegmatites and phosphate-group minerals.

University study: Geology of ore deposits from 1976 to 1981 (diploma).
Many field trips to the tin/copper mines & china clay pits of Cornwall/GB, to the alpine veins & pegmatites of Ticino/Switzerland, as well as some "crystal hunting" in the Austrian and Italian Alps.
Starting the first trials in mineral photography.

1982-1989 : Geological field work in Scotland for the mineralogy department of Munich university, finishing a phD-work on the igneous petrology of Ballachulish ring complex, and doing further research & teaching for the institute of mineralogy.

1989 : The change to "books & magazines" at Weise Verlag Munich.
Editor of LAPIS magazine since March 1993, doing complete layout & editing.
