Raúl SANABRIA

I have been interested in minerals for a long time, and this has motivated me to pursue a career as a geologist. My specialty is mineral resources, and the topic of my master's degree research was skarn-hosted iron deposits. Since graduating I have had the good fortune to find work with an important Spanish mining company.

My principal love is Spanish minerals, because there are many well-known localities that produce aesthetic, world-class specimens of many species, including cinnabar, sphalerite, fluorite, gypsum, jarosite, and many others. As a result, I have begun visiting mines, both recent and old, to collect minerals myself, which is something I find very enjoyable.

I have published several articles in the journal Revista de Minerales on Spanish minerals and mineral locations. Topics include the Bustarviejo granites, pegmatites, and associated alteration minerals, the iron ore skarns of Burguillos del Cerro, and the sodium sulphate minerals of the Madrid Tertiary Basin.

My collection is focused in several areas; general Spanish mineralogy in aesthetic specimens, Spanish classics, fluorite from Asturias, minerals from the Bustarviejo granitic pegmatites, and lastly, other world-wide minerals. I have been collecting less than ten years and now have about one thousand specimens in my collection, some of which are exceptional for the localities. I prefer well-crystallized minerals in cabinet-sized specimens.
