John VEEVAERT
A note about John Veevaert
John has a BS in Geology and an MS in Geomorphology. He has worked for two mineral exploration companies in Alaska and Nevada and also had a career as a geomorphologist with Redwood National Park and the United States Forest Service. He started his mineral dealership in 1995 and today, together with his wife Colleen, operates the various Trinity Mineral Company websites which include: Trinityminerals.com, Tsumeb.com, RareMinerals.com, BenitoiteMine.com, MineralBooks.com, Mineral-Auctions.com and MineralShows.com. The name of his company is derived from where John lives which is in Trinity County, California.
John's favorite mineral species is benitoite.
A note about John Veevaert's Benitoite Collection
All that I collect in the way of minerals are specimens of benitoite from its various known locations and specimens of the various species that are found at the Benitoite Gem Mine. That's it. As a dealer it behooves me to make everything else that passes through my hands available to other collectors.
I have been collecting minerals since 1977 and when I started a mineral dealership in 1995 I realized that it was in my best interest to develop a focus for my collection. I chose to focus on benitoite because of its unique characteristics and the interesting geologic setting found in the vicinity of the Benitoite Gem Mine. These are images from a few of the specimens in my collection. It has not been a pocket book friendly experience. It is not easy to locate or inexpensive to obtain outstanding specimens from this interesting locality.
Most people probably think that a benitoite is a benitoite and there's no need to look beyond getting one representative sample with crystals of benitoite, neptunite and joaquinite. My collection has specimens which include twins, rare species, rare crystal habits and associations. Most of the specimens in it are
small between 2 and 5 cm in size though there are quite a few that exceed 25 cm in dimension. It is my hope that by viewing some of these photos you will gain a better appreciation for the rarer crystal habits that benitoite is found in.
